Caen Port is situated on the right bank of the River Orne, 6 miles upstream from its confluence with the River English Channel. It is the largest city in the Calvados department and forms the urban core of the Caen agglomeration, which includes all communes with more than 10,000 inhabitants. Major towns near Caen Port are Falaise, Livarot, Vimoutiers, Troarn, and Louvigny. The port is located in the basin of the Orne, to the north of the city center. The river is navigable to small craft up to Caen, although the entrance to the port is via a lock. The basin is connected to the Canal de Caen à la Mer, which provides a link to the English Channel. The port is a mixed-use facility with commercial and leisure craft facilities. The commercial port is located south of the basin, with a quay accommodating up to ten vessels.
