Port of New Orleans
The Port of New Orleans is a deep-water port located in Louisiana, United States. It is the largest port in the Gulf of Mexico and the ninth-largest in the United States. The port is located on the Mississippi River near the Gulf of Mexico and is the southern terminus of the Mississippi River-Gulf of Mexico Waterway. Significant towns near Port of New Orleans include Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Metairie, Kenner, Laplace, Houma, Hammond, Slidell, Mandeville, and Covington. The port is also the starting point for the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. The port handles about 200 million tons of cargo per year, and it is the fourth-largest port in the world by total cargo volume. The port is the home port of the United States Navy’s Second Fleet and the Fourth Fleet.
