Nhava Sheva Port
Nhava Sheva port is the largest container port in India. Located on the country’s west coast in Maharashtra, the port is accessible to vessels worldwide. Nearby towns to the Nhava Sheva port in Mumbai include Uran, Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Kalyan. Nhava Sheva handles a large percentage of India’s maritime trade and is a vital link in the country’s supply chain. The port is also home to a large community of workers, many of whom live and work in the port area.
The port has five container terminals, four operated by private companies and one by JNPT. The port is accessible to vessels up to 300,000 DWT. It has a depth of 15 meters along the berth and 18 meters along the channel.
The port has a dedicated container freight station (CFS) for container handling. It also has a separate on-dock rail terminal for container handling. Nhava Sheva was initially developed in the early 1970s to relieve congestion at the nearby port of Mumbai. Since then, the port has undergone several expansions and improvements. Today, the port can handle over six million TEUs of cargo per year.
The port is also home to many container terminals, each operated by a different shipping line. Nhava Sheva is an essential part of the Indian economy and plays a vital role in the country’s trade. The port is a crucial contributor to the country’s GDP and is responsible for the employment of thousands of workers.
To export/import goods, all containers must be inspected by the Customs authorities before export, and a manifest must be submitted. A Bill of Lading must be obtained from the shipping line, and an Export Declaration submitted to the Customs authorities. A Shipping Bill must be obtained from the Customs authorities and a Certificate of Origin from the Chambers of Commerce. A Letter of Credit must be obtained from the bank.
