Port Kelang
Port Kelang is the busiest and largest port in Malaysia. It is located in Selangor and significantly contributes to the country’s economy. Major towns near Port Kelang are Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, Kelang, Seremban, Melaka, Johor Bahru, Kota Bharu, Ipoh, Penang, Kuala Terengganu. The port handles a wide range of cargo and is also a key transshipment hub in Southeast Asia. Port Kelang was established in the early 1800s and has undergone massive development. It is now home to a modern container terminal and many other facilities that support the port’s operations. The port plays a vital role in Malaysia’s trade and handles many of the country’s imports and exports. It is also a key hub for the region’s shipping industry and is served by many major shipping lines.
The port covers an area of 2,200 hectares and has 55 berths. It handles a variety of cargo, including containers, bulk cargo, Ro-Ro (roll-on/roll-off), and break-bulk cargo. Port Kelang is also a central hub for cruise ships in Southeast Asia. The port has a cruise terminal that can accommodate up to 2,000 passengers.
To export from Port Kelang, a company must have an exporter registration certificate from the Malaysian government. To import into Port Kelang, a company must have an importer registration certificate and a valid business license. All shipments must be declared to customs and must include a commercial invoice.
Customs must seal all containers before they are loaded onto ships. Customs will provide a list of approved container seals. All shipments must be covered by insurance and be accompanied by a packing list. Also, the company must have a Letter of Credit for the shipment.
